How to Make Your Website Live

Follow three simple steps to publish your website so everyone on the internet can visit it

Three Easy Steps to Make Your Website Live

Step 1 Upload Your Website Files

Upload all your website files to the hosting server using either of the two methods below.

Option A: Using an FTP Client

1. Open an FTP client such as FileZilla or WinSCP.

2. Enter the FTP details from your hosting provider (host, username, password and port).

3. Open the public_html folder on the server.

4. Drag and drop your website files from your computer into that folder.

Option B: Using cPanel File Manager

1. Log in to your cPanel account.

2. Under the Files section, click File Manager.

3. Open the public_html folder.

4. Click Upload at the top and select your files (or one .zip file of your website).

5. If you uploaded a .zip file, go back to File Manager, right-click the file and choose Extract.

Tip: Uploading a single .zip file and extracting it in cPanel is usually faster than uploading many separate files, especially for large websites. Make sure your main file (such as index.html or index.php) is directly inside public_html and not in a sub-folder

Step 2Update the Domain's Name Servers

Change the DNS (name server) settings of your domain so it points to the server where your files are stored. Your hosting provider will send you the name server details, which look like this:

ns1.yourdomain.com
ns2.yourdomain.com
⏳ Please wait: After you update the name servers, it can take around 24 to 48 hours for the domain to work everywhere in the world.

Step 3Check Your Website Access

Once your files are uploaded and the DNS has updated, open your website from different devices and networks. If other people can see it but it doesn't load on your own computer, your IP address may be blocked in the server firewall.

For security, servers automatically block an IP address after repeated failed FTP or control panel login attempts. Contact your hosting provider and ask them to check and unblock your IP address.
